If you're tired of struggling with weight gain and have cycled through countless diets, you know just how frustrating it can be to put off weight and keep it off. This is especially true as you age. As you age your metabolism slows down, which makes it difficult for you to burn calories. A fast metabolism uses the calories you intake faster, allowing you to keep off the weight longer, and to give yours a boost, you should consider trying the Fast Metabolism Diet.

While your metabolism might slow down as you age, it doesn't mean you need to accept it. There are things you can do that will help boost your metabolic rate back up. This way, you'll burn more calories doing the same activities. One of the biggest mistakes people make is to try to burn more calories at the gym without changing their diet, when weight loss really starts in the kitchen, not in the gym.

The gym helps emphasize the improvements you've made while define muscle, but in terms of actual weight loss, you need a healthy diet designed for weight loss. This is where the Fast Metabolism Diet comes in. The diet is designed to help boost your metabolism back up and help burn more calories while cutting down the number of calories you bring in on a daily basis. The two combined allows you to see better improvements in your weight loss while helping you keep the weight off.

What Is the Fast Metabolism Diet?

The Fast Metabolism Diet is a three-stage approach to weight loss. It is designed to shift the way you eat to help keep your metabolism up. One of the biggest reasons you struggle to keep weight off is because of the way you eat. You might try to skip meals to cut out calories. The problem with this is when you skip meals you end up shutting down your metabolism.

This means while you might have skipped a few hundred calories you'll end up reducing the amount of calories you burn at the gym. If you skip enough of these meals, your body will eventually target muscle to break down for energy instead of fat cells. The more muscle you have the more calories you burn, so by breaking down muscle instead of fat you hinder future weight loss even further.

On top of all of this, constantly skipping meals isn't a viable lifestyle. It's not something you can maintain and continue with. Dieting isn't about dropping a few pounds for a few weeks or months. You need a diet that is sustainable. This is the only way you'll drop weight and keep it off. And that's what the Fast Metabolism Diet aims at becoming for you.

Once you learn how to keep your metabolic rate up thanks to the Fast Metabolism Diet, you'll discover just how well your body can use your calories. You'll also feel a new level of energy as your body maintains a high metabolism rate, When your metabolism slumps, so too will your ability to perform, think, and do just about anything throughout the course of the day. By taking advantage of the Fast Metabolism Diet you'll create a whole new lifestyle for yourself to follow.

The Fast Metabolism Diet is a 28-day plan that is broken down into cycles. At the conclusion of the 28-day play you'll repeat it. Created by Haylie Pomroy, who works as a celebrity nutritionist and wellness consultant, she has experience working with individuals who rely specifically on their looks and body image for work. Haylie also shows in the book (with which the entire diet can be found) that you need not spend an arm and a leg for this kind of diet. You need to know what you can eat, what you shouldn't, and how you should eat.

Fast Metabolism Diet: Phases & Guidelines

Before getting into the specifics of the Fast Metabolism Diet, you need to know a few basics, this way you'll know right out of the gate whether it is something you're interested in trying yourself.

For starters, there are some diet restrictions. You will need to avoid caffeine, alcohol, corn, dairy, soy, refined sugar, dried fruit, fruit juice, nitrates (which comes from processed meats) and wheat (except sprouted and natural yeast wheat). So yes, this means you must cut coffee, sodas and anything else that has large amounts of caffeine.

Beyond the dietary restrictions, you must increase the amount of water you drink every day. You need to drink at least half of your body weight in ounces of water. This means, if you weight 140 pounds, you need to drink at least 70 ounces of water. One of the best ways to ensure you drink enough water is to purchase a large water bottle that has ounces listed on it. Half your body weight in water might sound like a lot, but once you start up, you'll be surprised just how easy it is to drink the water over the course of the day.

The Three Phases of the Fast Metabolism Diet

Each week is broken down into three different phases. Phase 1 is designed for day one and two, which are the high-carb, no fat, moderate protein days. With these two days, you'll focus on complex carbs (as opposed to simple carbs, which is sugar). Complex carbs are beans and whole grains. These food groups come with a moderate amount of protein, all while shedding the fat intake. Haylie recommends cardio exercises during these two days as the carbs will be right there, ready to give you instant energy.

Phase 2 is for days three and four. This is the low carb, high protein, low-fat portion. With this portion of the diet, you'll want to focus on green vegetables and protein that is not processed. Whole chicken and turkey are excellent sources of non-processed meats. You can also eat fish, although avoid fattier fish such as salmon, as these will come with higher amounts of fat. These are the days you want to focus on weight training, as the increased protein will help your muscles recover (don't worry, as the other days are not heavy protein days you won't bulk up).

Phase 3 is for the final three days of the week. These are the moderate carb, moderate protein, and high fat days. For this day, you'll eat foods high in healthy fats, such as avocados, nuts and fresh fruits like bananas.

When to Eat

To keep your metabolism up, you need to have a constant inflow of calories. Due to this, you need to eat your first meal roughly 30 minutes after you wake up. You should also have a tall glass of water upon first waking up. This helps both waken up your metabolism, but it also helps hydrate you as your body will create water after sleep. From here, you'll want to eat five small meals a day with one coming every three to four hours.
